Confidence at hand

The 1st Mate Marine Safety and Security System puts confidence in the palm of your hand with overboard alerts, distress messaging and theft-deterrent functionality. Utilizing wearable fobs and your mobile device, 1st Mate combines boat safety with convenience.

What is 1st Mate?

1st Mate is an intelligent hub, wearable device and mobile app providing safety alerts and boat security, including:

  • Man-overboard monitoring and alerts

  • Distress message capability

  • Theft Deterrent Functionality

1st Mate Marine Safety and Security System utilizes wearable fobs for boat captain and up to seven passengers. These wearables connect to a mobile device and ensure that if the captain falls overboard, the engine(s) will stop, an alarm will sound and alerts will be sent via the 1st Mate mobile app, thanks to direct integration with the vessel’s propulsion system.

Similarly, if a passenger falls overboard, the captain will be alerted and given the passenger’s GPS location via the app.

How 1st Mate Works

Captain wearing FOB falls overboard:

  • Engine(s) stop when fob is submerged in water

  • Audible alarm from boat hub and mobile device app

  • Location marked via GPS on app and vessel multifunction displays (if equipped)

  • Alerts sent to mobile app and wearables of connected passenger(s)

  • Instructions provided on mobile app of connected passenger(s) on how to return to location where captain went overboard

Passenger wearing FOB falls overboard:

  • Audible alarm from boat hub and mobile device app

  • Location marked via GPS on app and vessel multifunction displays (if equipped)

  • Alerts sent to mobile app and wearables of connected captain and other passenger(s)

  • Directions provided on mobile app to location where passenger went overboard

Theft Deterrent System (TDS)

TDS locks your engine(s) to prevent unauthorized use. Once you’re ready to get back behind the wheel, your engine(s) can easily be unlocked via the proximity of the captain’s wearable or by using the 1st Mate mobile app. Additional TDS functions are available on the 1st Mate Marine Safety and Security System for Mercury SmartCraft Engines.

Distress Message

If a boat captain (driver wearing the captain’s fob) falls overboard and can’t get back onboard, or passengers can’t return the boat to the captain, 1st Mate will send a distress message to your emergency contact(s). Distress message is sent after a countdown timer expires or a request for help is made. Message includes location, heading, date and time of the “man overboard” event.

New Boats: Beneteau Oceanis 34.1 – A Sleek, Good -Looking Delight To Sail

By Katherine Stone

There is nothing more that I enjoy than being with friends and messing about in boats. Messing about in brand-new boats on a champagne sailing day on Lake Ontario at the beginning of the summer doesn’t get any better. To have the new owner, Helmuth Strobel and Anchor Yachts dealer Pancho Jimenez aboard made it even more special, as they can also speak to what they truly enjoy about the boat. We keep our own boat in a harbour that has a long waiting list for boats over 35 feet, so this little gem would definitely fit the bill and feels like a much bigger boat. True to the spirit of the 7th generation Oceanis line, the 34.1 is built in Poland and replaces the 35.1. It is 1,000 lbs lighter, 14 cm narrower and has 29% more sail area.
