North and West Vancouver boat clubs are newest to Clean Marine BC
North Vancouver’s Burrard Yacht Club and West Vancouver’s Hollyburn Sailing Club are the newest certified members of Clean Marine BC, Georgia Strait Alliance’s eco-certification program that supports recreational boating facilities to reduce the impact of their operations on Burrard Inlet, the Salish Sea and beyond.

MacDonald Turkey Point Marina presents $17,000 to the London Children’s Health Foundation
On Thursday, October 28th, 2021, Brad Thomson, General Manager of MacDonald Turkey Point Marina, presented a cheque for $17,000 to Jennifer Baxter of the London Children’s Health Foundation. Also on hand for the cheque presentation were Marina President Danny MacDonald, Julie Thomson, and Norfolk County Councillor Chris VanPassen.

Sail Canada and CY to launch new free sailing source
Sail Canada and Canadian Yachting Media will join forces to reach and connect more members of the broader Canadian sailing community by launching a new joint newsletter. And 2022 will start on a strong note, as the first edition of this newly-created newsletter called “Sailing in Canada” will be sent out on Wednesday, January 5th.

The bumper sticker slogan “Have you hugged your boat today” has gone from meme to top of mind thought as we put the covers on and hunker down for the winter. After a second season of (nasty word deleted) it’s dramatically obvious how important that boat really is. It’s no secret to most of us that your boat defines you to your friends and to your own identity.

Rolex TP52 World Championship
The Rolex TP52 World Championship brought ten teams from seven countries in Palma de Mallorca, Spain November 2-6 for five days of competition. After eight races, Takashi Okura’s Sled, from the United States, emerged victorious to claim a well-deserved title.

Bluenose launches numismatists’ hearts sailing
In late October, the Royal Canadian Mint set pockets aflame by adding a new Bluenose dime to circulating currency. For the first time since Bluenose appeared on Canada’s 10-cent circulation coin in 1937, the Mint has re-designed the image of the famous fishing schooner that Canadians have known and loved for a century.

An Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) is a safety device carried by a vessel to alert search and rescue services and allow them to quickly locate you in the event of an emergency. When activated it transmits a coded message on the 406 MHz distress frequency which is monitored by the Cospas-Sarsat satellite system.
