La baie Sainte-Marguerite fermée à la navigation du 21 juin au 21 septembre

Durant la période estivale, la fermeture à la navigation de la baie Sainte-Marguerite (entre les caps Nord-Ouest et Sainte-Marguerite de la rivière Saguenay) permet de limiter le dérangement de ce secteur hautement fréquenté par les femelles bélugas et leurs petits. Les embarcations à moteur et à voile doivent circuler hors de la zone interdite. Les canots et kayaks doivent suivre un trajet précis lorsqu’ils accèdent à la baie.

Toute personne opérant une embarcation dans ce secteur doit connaître et appliquer le Règlement sur les activités en mer dans le parc marin du Saguenay–Saint-Laurent. Cette réglementation, élaborée conjointement avec l’industrie et les partenaires du parc, encadre les activités pratiquées dans le parc marin.

The Erie Canal – An Extraordinary Waterway

As I shift our chartered canal boat into neutral, I’m soothed by the soundtrack of bird calls, the occasional plaintive horn of a distant train and the hum of our engine.

I reach for the VHF to radio the lockmaster in charge of Erie Canal’s Lock 32 dead ahead. Our boat spins gently in the current like a maple key in a mud puddle.

“This is Onondaga,” I say. “Headed westbound and requesting passage.”
