Wear It

Mar 8, 2016

The National Safe Boating Council, in partnership with the Canadian Safe Boating Council, invite boating safety professionals, the boating community and the media to participate in the seventh-annual “Ready, Set, Wear It!” Life Jacket World Record Day on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Participants in cities around the globe will gather to set a world record for the most life jackets worn and inflatable life jackets inflated. The goal is not only to promote the comfortable and versatile options when it comes to life jackets, but also to educate the public about life jackets and safe boating in general.

“Ready, Set, Wear It!,” will usher in National Safe Boating Week, this year May 21 – 27, 2016. These efforts are part of a yearlong campaign to promote safe and responsible boating, the North American Safe Boating Campaign. Boating safety partners across the U.S. and Canada are teaming up to educate the public about life jacket wear and safe boating.

To ensure an accurate count from each location, all organizers are asked to record their event through photographs or video as well as a sign-up sheet (found under “Resources” at http://www.readysetwearit.com). All Sign-In sheets and photos/videos must be turned in to outreach@safeboatingcouncil.org no later than May 31, 2016 to be counted towards the record. After the event numbers are tallied, the total number of participants is posted to the website.

The National Safe Boating Council and the Canadian Safe Boating Council hope to not only set another world record and surpass 2015’s 10,917participants from twelve countries, but, most importantly, educate the boating public about the comfort and accessibility of inflatable life jackets. Throughout the year, the North American Safe Boating Campaign focuses on the goal of educating the public about safe boating and life jacket wear, and relies on events like “Ready, Set, Wear It!” and National Safe Boating Week to bring more awareness to this life-saving cause. New Boats: Beneteau Oceanis 34.1 – A Sleek, Good -Looking Delight To Sail

By Katherine Stone

There is nothing more that I enjoy than being with friends and messing about in boats. Messing about in brand-new boats on a champagne sailing day on Lake Ontario at the beginning of the summer doesn’t get any better. To have the new owner, Helmuth Strobel and Anchor Yachts dealer Pancho Jimenez aboard made it even more special, as they can also speak to what they truly enjoy about the boat. We keep our own boat in a harbour that has a long waiting list for boats over 35 feet, so this little gem would definitely fit the bill and feels like a much bigger boat. True to the spirit of the 7th generation Oceanis line, the 34.1 is built in Poland and replaces the 35.1. It is 1,000 lbs lighter, 14 cm narrower and has 29% more sail area.
