Preview: New Beneteau Oceanis 30.1
Aug 22, 2019
The Oceanis official US debut will be at the upcoming Newport International Boat Show in September and will be featured at the United States Sailboat show in Annapolis in October.
With an overall size under 30 feet and a light displacement of less than 8,805 lbs., the Oceanis is easily trailerable without a wide load permit. If you prefer to access your sailing grounds by canals and rivers, the lifting keel and rotating mast open a world of endless possibilities. Perfect for sailing on lakes or for coastal hopping, this new Oceanis is, nevertheless, a robust category B sailing yacht, fitted for offshore sailing. The smallest of the range offers the biggest choice of programs!
The Oceanis 30.1 has a hull designed by Finot-Conq with a slender stem widening into a hard chine above the waterline, optimized weight, and a square-top mainsail as standard, giving her everything she needs to perform well in all points of sail. Thrill seekers and new sailors from the world of dinghy sailing will love the tiller on twin rudders. Sailors who prefer comfort will choose the twin steering wheels. For beginners or for shorthanded sailing, the self-tacking jib and the single winch will be perfect. For high performance, Oceanis 30.1 can be equipped with a large overlapping genoa, a furling code zero or an asymmetric spinnaker (stemhead built into the hull design.)
With a hard-chine hull and well-proportioned topsides and coach roof, the Oceanis 30.1 unmistakably looks like a small yacht. The aft beam has space for two steering wheels, which frees up the cockpit. In the configuration with a tiller, there is even more space available. Apart from being visually attractive, the unstayed mast with sweptback spreaders gets rid of the backstay and frees up movement aft. The same goes for the mainsail sheet, which, placed forward off the companionway, frees up space while making manoeuvres safer. On either side of the large foldaway cockpit table are two large benches, which easily seat up to six guests. Aft, a step affords access to the sea and can be supplemented by a small lifting platform.
By making the soles part of the boat’s structure, headroom has been increased to 6.9 ft midship and 6.1 ft in the two cabins. The inches won at the bow and aft, give her length enough for two good-sized double cabins, a wonderful open space (a real entryway for each of the cabins) and allow lengthwise berths. The two 6.5 X 6.5 foot benches in the salon provide additional space for extra berths. The large shower room is divided into a marine toilet on one side and shower and washbasin on the other. At the foot of the companionway, the L-shaped galley has top and bottom storage, a 25-gallon refrigerator and a real oven under the gas hob. Another important element of comfort on the Oceanis 30.1 is the gently sloping companionway (3 steps at 33°.)
