Rebuilding the Dock System at Credit Village Marina

Credit Village Marina Dock System

Oct 10, 2024

By Boating Industry Canada Staff Writer

When the people at Kropf Industrial took on the task of rebuilding the dock system at Credit Village Marina they knew that were a few obstacles to overcome. The first was the timing. Starting in January and getting operational by May for the 2024 boating season was certainly a challenge. The second was managing the dredging of the harbour. It would seem simple enough but with limited space available for the accumulated sediment, its removal posed some difficult hauling situations.

The next challenge was the landscape design. The plan called for building a retaining wall to prevent land sliding down from the steep inclines surrounding the harbour. Although there is no tidal effect, the Port Credit River has had some highwater issues in the past. Finally, was the challenge of design and installation for the continuously smooth, curved deck which is the signature design element of the marina. All of these issues were challenges for Kropf to overcome as was keeping the whole operation under strict environmental overview.

Credit Village Marina, accessible up the Credit River on the north side of the waterfront, is owned and operated by the City of Mississauga. It provides hourly, daily and weekly rentals for dockage, plus several seasonal slips that can accommodate vessels up to 45 feet in length. It is located at the mouth of the Credit River in Port Credit and is close to restaurants, cafes, bars and shopping. The main dock is accessible to the general public, while the slip renters have access to their slip through a numbered lock gate.

Kropf oversaw the installation of the new hydro and fuel dock facilities while adhering to all the regulations. The epoxy coated steel flotation tubes that will provide a long life and more stability than their previous docking system. Also, the Marina chose an upgraded laminated PVC decking for its durability, long life and minimal maintenance. The City of Mississauga is very pleased with the outcome of the Credit Village Marina waterfront upgrade and Kropf Industrial is very proud of the results on this project. Planning and public consultation continues for the 1 Port Street East Proposed Marina development.

The Erie Canal – An Extraordinary Waterway

As I shift our chartered canal boat into neutral, I’m soothed by the soundtrack of bird calls, the occasional plaintive horn of a distant train and the hum of our engine.

I reach for the VHF to radio the lockmaster in charge of Erie Canal’s Lock 32 dead ahead. Our boat spins gently in the current like a maple key in a mud puddle.

“This is Onondaga,” I say. “Headed westbound and requesting passage.”
