Canadian Boating Passion

Jan 7, 2025

A growing community of Canadian Boaters are proudly dawning the apparel and brand of Anchor Gear Co. This Canadian-owned and operated brand is an extension of founder Amanda Fydirchuk’s lifelong love and passion for boating.

Amanda Fydirchuk

“Anchor Gear Co. is a testament to my lifelong love for the water, a passion that began in my childhood spent boating on Georgian Bay. As a woman who grew up navigating these waterways, I’ve channeled my experiences into creating a brand that resonates with fellow water enthusiasts.”

Anchor Gear Co. officially debuted at the Toronto International Boat Show in 2024 which grabbed the attention of other Canadian marine industry leaders. The practicality of the apparel combined with a commitment to expanding and enriching the Canadian boating community has helped the brand forge new partnerships. Anchor Gear Co. is now associated with C-Tow Marine, Docklinks, Water on the Water, Carefree Boat Club Simcoe and they recently became the official supplier of CanBoat apparel (formerly Canadian Power and Sail Squadron).

“Anchor Gear Co. is more than just an apparel brand; it’s a community. It’s about those unspoken connections between all water lovers, whether they’re on a boat, kayak, paddleboard, or any vessel that calls to them. We’re here for those shared stories by the shore, the dock, or out on the waves, fueled by a collective passion for the water. We aim to bring people together, to explore, create memories, and celebrate the beauty of life on the water.”

This commitment to the marine lifestyle is reflected in the quality of the materials. “Each article is preshrunk, allowing for easy wash and wear, and can be tossed in the dryer without the worry of shrinkage—ideal for an active, on-the-go lifestyle. Every selection is made with the water enthusiast in mind, ensuring it meets the needs of those who love life on the water.”

Anchor Gear Co. plans to expand its collaborations with even more marine industry leaders as well as high-quality brands to enhance their offerings for the community.

Anyone who is attending the 2025 Toronto International Boat Show is encouraged to swing by Amanda’s booth and try out the apparel for themselves. More selections can be found online at anchorgearco.com

The Erie Canal – An Extraordinary Waterway

By Mark Stevens

As I shift our chartered canal boat into neutral, I’m soothed by the soundtrack of bird calls, the occasional plaintive horn of a distant train and the hum of our engine.

I reach for the VHF to radio the lockmaster in charge of Erie Canal’s Lock 32 dead ahead. Our boat spins gently in the current like a maple key in a mud puddle.

“This is Onondaga,” I say. “Headed westbound and requesting passage.”
