A Truly Happy Holiday

Editors Note

Dec 22, 2022

About a year ago, we were saying “happy holiday” but there was a note of hesitancy in the jovial wishes. We were coming off a second year of limited boating activity with a lot of question marks hanging over the early days of ’22.

How things have changed for the better in those dozen months! Boats launched in the spring, then we were cruising, rafting and dock partying! There was sailpast, then Canada Day celebrations for the first time in three years! You don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone so when mostly-back-to-normal arrived our appreciation was monumental.

Finally, the year ahead appears to be a wide-open boating season. As we wind down 2022, we can look forward to the boat shows, then a spring of anticipation and happy ticking down to launch. That has us in the holiday spirit, the gift we really wanted from Santa.

To wrap the package, a special round of thanks to all of you who have enjoyed and contributed to and advertised in Canadian Yachting OnBoard, making us Canada’s Number One online boating information source. Also, a big Thanks! to the CY Media team that puts it all together – there have been 24 packed editions this year – quite an accomplishment. Seasons’ Greetings all – see you for the best Happy New Year in a long time, 2023!

New Boats: Beneteau Oceanis 34.1 – A Sleek, Good -Looking Delight To Sail

By Katherine Stone

There is nothing more that I enjoy than being with friends and messing about in boats. Messing about in brand-new boats on a champagne sailing day on Lake Ontario at the beginning of the summer doesn’t get any better. To have the new owner, Helmuth Strobel and Anchor Yachts dealer Pancho Jimenez aboard made it even more special, as they can also speak to what they truly enjoy about the boat. We keep our own boat in a harbour that has a long waiting list for boats over 35 feet, so this little gem would definitely fit the bill and feels like a much bigger boat. True to the spirit of the 7th generation Oceanis line, the 34.1 is built in Poland and replaces the 35.1. It is 1,000 lbs lighter, 14 cm narrower and has 29% more sail area.
