POTW: Here comes Winter

Winter Is Coming

Jan 7, 2025

Final Check of the Cottage with Brother Duncan Before the Ice Comes In.

This frosty image was taken on Gloucester Pool on the Trent Severn system, by Robert Bruce at the helm in this shot undaunted by the weather.

“We have had a lot of snow squalls blowing off Georgian Bay. This was the second dumping of snow. The first snowfall about a week ago left about 3 1/2 feet. Then we had a few warm days and then just on Friday another squall left another 3 feet fell upon us.

We went over to check the island and clear any snow off the roofs of the cottage in fear of them collapsing. There had also been multiple power outages and trees across the lines on the island. After the last power outage, we decided to go over one last time to make sure that they had indeed restored the power. Everything seemed in order and now we are ready for when the lake freezes over to get on the snowmobiles.”

It’s always the right weather for your Photo of the Week. Balmy summer shots from the season, are always welcome so you don’t need to brave the blizzards, as Robert did.  Please send your shots along to onboard@kerrwil.com and please put POTW in the subject line.

So when I heard that Pride Marine in Orillia, Ontario, had a Nimbus 365 Coupe in the water, I jumped at the chance to get out on it.

Tahiti—Updates from Paradise

By Zuzana Prochaska

I’ve been to Tahiti seven times—six on charter and once as crew for a couple of yachties. Over the 25 years that I’ve been visiting, it’s changed dramatically. Yet, inexplicably, it has also stayed the same.

Lounging on the flybridge of our Sunsail 454, I had time to think about this dichotomy as I toasted the nighttime skies of Bora Bora and specifically the Southern Cross, a constellation that never fails to hypnotize. As the Crosby, Stills & Nash (1982) tune reminds us:

…you understand now why you came this way.
