CYOB Inbox: More on the C&C Custom 44R

C&C 44

Nov 7, 2019

Hi, I’m wondering if you can pass along my email to Rob Maurice regarding the C&C 44 custom (see CYOB October 24 edition.) I own the 1988 one as I believe they only made one a year. I have a lot of questions that I’m hoping Rob may be able to help answer…

This is my 1988 C&C 44 custom, I believe she was originally named Smiling Bulldog. I really don’t know much about her history.

It originally had hydraulics throughout but that rig was replaced by a Klacko rig with a 67ft mast, an open transom and an 8.5ft draught.

There are pipe births aft of the companionway, and large Vberth forward.

She has a Yanmar 44 4jhe and I really wish I knew more.

I sail out of port Elgin, ON but I keep her in Bayfield, ON over the winter.

Until now, there hasn’t been an electric boat that really makes a statement. Enter the ENVGO NV1.

Canada’s Superior: the North Shore

Story and photos by Jennifer M. Smith

We’d been north before on a short two-week cruise. At the time, we were unprepared for the isolation, the lack of cell phone coverage, and the spotty VHF reception. Since then we’ve repowered, installed Starlink, and retired from work. Now, with confidence in our engine and our connectivity and more time to sail, we were Superior-ready.
