Boaters try Fractional Yachting for the Season

Nov 23, 2023

Greg Marlo of Yacht Solutions( left) congratulates Ryan Pouter

Ryan Pouter and Melissa Vass Scott were the winners of the ‘Win A Schaefer Yacht’ for the season. They’ve been boating since they met just over five years ago, and it is their favorite pastime.

It was love at first sight for Melissa when saw the Schaefer 400. Once at the helm, she really liked the Joystick control and how easy it made maneuvering the boat. It took away the anxiety of docking a boat that was significantly larger than what she was used to.

Schaefer Yachts in Brazil has been manufacturing motor yachts from 32’ to 83’ for over 30 years. The Schaefer 400 Sport is an express cruiser with a distinctive design and countless praises for its agility and speed. With its high ceilings below deck, it is the only one in its category with two suites, giving you the comfort and refinement that makes the Schaefer 400 an extension of your own home.

Ryan immediately recognized that if you have a certain amount of money to invest in a boat, you will find your dollar goes much further with Fractional Ownership. You end up driving a nicer, newer, safer, well-maintained yacht and save up to 75% of the acquisition and ongoing costs. “We loved these features on the boat”.

The cockpit area is great for entertaining, with BBQ, large circular sitting area with teak decking and table, wet bar and food prep area, sunshade canopy and high capacity 100-liter cooler for drinks and food storage.

The helm equipped with Garmin’s Glass cockpit boasts easy visibility and access to all controls including joystick docking and many convenient features like Easy Connect. The console and extensive dash area are finished in a luxurious leather. The large retractable roof allows for greater visibility and openness to the sky. Two private staterooms each with their own ensuite bathrooms have excellent storage and several windows. This salon area is completed with an L shaped seating area, full entertainment system and complete galley with fridge / freezer. All luxuriously finished, carpeted throughout with dual climate controls.

The hydraulic swim platform is designed with a 400kg capacity accommodating a Jet Ski or tender while being ideal for water access and swimming.

Yacht management is the key to running a successful fractional program for owners. Basically, the owners don’t waste any time with the day-to-day responsibilities, and they can enjoy every minute they spend on the boat. The revenue / income option is a bonus with several tax advantages, which Yacht Solutions can provide more insight on. Ease into ownership with the various programs; “We want people to experience yachting at its best” says founder Greg Marlo. Why not ‘Try before you Buy’ and experience Schaefer Yachts firsthand with instruction from our professional staff. Fractional ownership offers all the advantages of sole ownership plus more because the boat is professionally managed. Many people transition to sole ownership on their timeline and never left boatless, as Yacht Solutions provides a smooth and uninterrupted transition between programs.

So if you’re intrigued with the idea of yacht ownership, you can consider this risk free way to ‘Try before you Buy’. Yacht Solutions is the Schaefer Yacht importer / distributor for Canada, offering full yacht sales and service along with yacht management programs that make this yachting experience a reality.

The Erie Canal – An Extraordinary Waterway

By Mark Stevens

As I shift our chartered canal boat into neutral, I’m soothed by the soundtrack of bird calls, the occasional plaintive horn of a distant train and the hum of our engine.

I reach for the VHF to radio the lockmaster in charge of Erie Canal’s Lock 32 dead ahead. Our boat spins gently in the current like a maple key in a mud puddle.

“This is Onondaga,” I say. “Headed westbound and requesting passage.”
