Charles Industries IMC Chargers

We were delighted to learn that one of the best-respected manufacturers of electrical components was fully recognized with an Innovation Award at the boat builders’ conference, IBEX last fall. The Charles IMC charger (IMC = Intelligent Marine Charger) took top honours in the electrical components category and for good reason.

The new IMC line has all the important features that are needed in today’s complex marine electrics systems. It will charge up to four different battery banks in either 12 or 24-volt configurations. It has different charge profiles to be able to handle flooded, gel, AGM or Li-ION batteries. These new chargers will handle a variety of electrical inputs – 120/208/240 volt and either 50 or 60 Hz – and will perform its charging duties no matter what shore power source is found, essentially anywhere in the cruising world.

The IMC line also features a “smart button” that locks the memory to different setting configurations so returning to a preset is easy and error-free. These chargers are available in 6 current capacities, 20A, 40A, 60A, 80A, 100A and an impressive 120A. All Charles charger products are made in the USA.

Tahiti—Updates from Paradise

By Zuzana Prochaska

I’ve been to Tahiti seven times—six on charter and once as crew for a couple of yachties. Over the 25 years that I’ve been visiting, it’s changed dramatically. Yet, inexplicably, it has also stayed the same.

Lounging on the flybridge of our Sunsail 454, I had time to think about this dichotomy as I toasted the nighttime skies of Bora Bora and specifically the Southern Cross, a constellation that never fails to hypnotize. As the Crosby, Stills & Nash (1982) tune reminds us:

…you understand now why you came this way.
