Canada Day. Hooray!

With Canada Day coming up next Tuesday, it’s a good time to take a break from what is certainly a double scoop of irritants in this world.  It turns out that this is a pretty wonderful country to live in, as most of us already knew.

After an all-Canadian unpredictably cool spring we have moved seamlessly into an all-Canadian heatwave. The wonky weather is a small price for living in the True North but is doesn’t seem to be curtailing boating activities.

We are getting news of all sorts of cruising, summer boat shows, and regattas. Boat dealers are reporting some sales and anecdotally we are getting news of larger fleets and more water skis.  So who knows?  In this week’s Boating Industry Canada Editor, Andy Adams, see signs of new attitudes with respect to luxury taxes and that could cheer everyone up.

It’s a oddball year but we are staying loose. Sail races and cruise plans are staying on this side of the border and otherwise, it’s fun as usual.  So raise a glass on board –  we have a lot to celebrate.

Spotted! Canadian Boating in Antigua & Barbuda

I wore my Canadian Boating cap everywhere I went in Antigua, for the sun, not for the shout-outs. But I sure received a lot of them.

Antigua Sailing Week is an international regatta that draws sailors of every level and spectators from all over the world. Yet I couldn’t walk across a room without being hailed by a Canadian who was as excited to see my cap as they were to see the racing. I met many who were on their 3rd, 4th and 5th visit.
