National Volunteer Week April 19 – 25, 2020: This is for YOU
Apr 23, 2020
This year marks the 16th year Volunteer Canada has delivered the campaign. Nationwide there are 12.7 million volunteers. Did you know two thousand CPS-ECP volunteers are part of this elite group contributing approximately 150,000 hours of service annually? That’s impressive and greatly appreciated by CPS-ECP.
Here are some little known facts
Each year, upwards of 15,000 students benefit directly from this volunteer service in your CPS-ECP classroom courses across Canada. Thousands of Canadian boaters also participate in CPS-ECP seminars, rendezvous, water and environmental clean-ups and social events. Thousands of the boating public are recipients of Recreational Vessel Courtesy Checks, Safety Equipment Education and Pyrotechnic Flare Disposal programs. Last year over 19,000 expired pyrotechnic flares were recovered by our CPS-ECP volunteers and disposed of in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.
The CPS-ECP volunteer effort also extends to vital leadership roles at the Squadron, District and National levels. You are the dedicated volunteers who contribute valuable time and skills to ensure CPS-ECP continues to be the premier boating organization nationally and in many communities across Canada.
With the onset of COVID-19 and future uncertainty volunteerism takes on a different role. Virtual meetings to online courses to stop the spread is teaching us to be flexible while maintaining safe physical distancing. Presently, our Educational and Outreach Officers/Volunteers are fine tuning on-line courses for the public to access by months end.
CPS-ECP volunteers like you are passionate when it comes to sharing the love of being on the water in a safe manner.
As a Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons volunteer you are important to our boating family especially during these challenging times. Please stay safe, and healthy. You are the backbone of our CPS-ECP organization.
Thanks to YOU!
Sincerely,
Peter Bolton, SN
Chief Commander
