Today (Thursday December 142017), Air Canada Rouge will make its inaugural flight to the Argyle International Airport in St Vincent and the Grenadines adding another direct route for Canadian charterers. The service from Toronto will operate once weekly during the winter season until April 12,2018 using an A319 aircraft, with a capacity of 136 seats.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) is collection of 32 islands and cays in the Caribbean. The Grenadines, which stretch 45 miles south from the main island of St. Vincent, include eight inhabited islands: Young Island, Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Mayreau, Union Island, Palm Island and Petit St.Vincent (PSV). The Tobago Cays (home of SVG’s national marine park) is a horseshoe shaped reef that shields five deserted islets and is known to have some of the best sailing waters in the world. SALTS Receives Yacht Donation – Plans New Ship

Victoria-based SALTS (Sail and Life Training Society) has received a donation of a 69’ yacht recently appraised at $1 million. Florida-based businessman and philanthropist James C. Ray donated his sloop Tango which is moored in Sidney. SALTS is now seeking a buyer for the yacht so funds gained from the sale can be used to help construct a new 140-foot wooden schooner. The new ship will provide sail training to teens and young adults alongside the society’s two existing ships. Ray’s private foundation has also pledged an additional $250,000 toward the project to be given at a future date.

Sixty-seven Tollycraft yachts 24 to 61’ in length and from home ports from Powell River to Redondo Beach, California gathered at Telegraph Harbour Marina September 13-16 for the 24th annual Canadian Tollycruiser Rendezvous. This year’s theme was the “Tolly Circus” and crew costumes reflected this, as did the pet parade. As always, food was front and centre with a corn and rib night, burger and beer lunch on shore, potluck appies, a Saturday cook-off and the usual Saturday night barbecue. Sunday morning it was the famous beer batter Tollycraft pancakes on the dock, along with some cool mimosas.

Opposition is increasing to announced cuts to Canadian Coast Guard facilities and services on the West Coast, including the closure of Kitsilano Station at the mouth of Vancouver’s False Creek, as the boating public and leaders in other levels of government voice concern about the implications for safety on the water. Over the past FEW weeks it has been revealed that the Coast Guard is also closing marine radio centres at Ucluelet, Comox and Vancouver,

Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
