With congratulatory speeches, a navy brass band and a First Nations welcoming circle, the Ladysmith Maritime Society recently opened its new dockside Reception Centre. After a number of speakers advanced the welcoming nature of the facility for visiting boaters, local mariners and First Nations neighbours, the proposal to rename it officially a Welcoming Centre was appreciated the large and enthusiastic crowd. Barry Goodyear of Ra Kon Marnie Surveyors in Innisfil, Ontario was telling us about a boat he recently surveyed. Severe electrical problems prompted the owner to re-wire an accessory. A 6’ length of wire was carefully stripped and even in the middle of the insulated area, there was the tell-tale green “fuzz” corrosion that results from saltwater exposure.
The boat had sunk in saltwater. Years later, the damage was coming to light.

Richard Bee, Chief Commander of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons is pleased to report that the organization has completed the search process and hired a new Executive Director. Their new Executive Director is Walter Kowalchuk. He will be joining CPS-ECP on September 4, 2012. Walter was born and raised in Edmonton Alberta and moved to the Toronto area in 1984. He is married with two children. His wife Susan is the Program Manager with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel.
Victoria’s Maritime Museum of British Columbia, is hosting the 9th Annual Massive Maritime Garage Sale on Saturday April 21 at Ogden Point, Pier A, Dallas Rd, 0900 to 1300 hours. Co-sponsored by the City of Victoria and CFB Esquimalt, the event is open to vendors who can rent a table for $35.00 and the event has a $5.00 entrance fee for adults but kids are free. Parking is free and is abundant. Expected to be offered on sale are small craft of all kinds, canoes, kayaks, dinghies, fishing equipment, crab and prawn traps, and marine and nautical gear of all kinds. Proceeds go towards the Museums Special Exhibition

The Pursuit S 268 Sport centre console is a do-it-all kind of boat with a solid sense of style. Centre console designs have been developed for the southern blue water sport fishing enthusiasts (and this boat would raise fish with the best of them) but the Pursuit S 268 Sport centre console offers far more utility and enjoyment than just fishing.
Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
