News from Echo Bay…

Pierre's Echo Bay

Pierre and Tove Landry of Pierre’s Echo Bay Lodge and Marina, a popular stop for cruisers in the Broughton Archipelago, have plenty of news this spring.

At the top of the list are the winners of the first annual Broughton Archipelago Poker Run: Tom and Linda Millar (MV Lindy Marine) of Vancouver. The Millars will enjoy 14 days’ free moorage at participating Broughtons marinas: Pierre’s, Port McNeill Fuel Dock and Marina, Sullivan Bay, Lagoon Cove, Jennis Bay and Shawl Bay. Watch for a repeat of the poker run this summer.

The Landrys are finalizing their purchase of Windsong Sea Village, across the bay from Pierre’s. It will be renamed The Cliffside and offer a lower-key moorage alternative to the main resort.

Over the winter, Pierre finished the interior and exterior of “The Hall” which replaced “The Tent” on the bridge – it’s tentatively known as “Chez Pierre.” And Tove promises it will include a restroom: “No more penguin jaunts down to the boats!” Pierre’s also offers its popular “work for free moorage” incentive for early-bird cruisers. “We could use a hand with banging a nail or two or painting or whatever during the months of April, May and up to June 15, in exchange for free moorage,” writes Tove.

Getting out of town was top-of-mind as it was only November and I was already saturated with Christmas traditions – the music, the glitter, the cookies, the sales. A week in relatively remote Belize was the siren song so we booked a 45-foot catamaran with The Moorings and packed our bags.
