Furuno’s “Fantum” Takes Customer Feedback and Makes the Mechanical Feedback Disappear From the Navpilot 700 Autopilot

Over the past several years, Furuno has been hard at work making an Autopilot that sets the bar for how an Autopilot should operate and steer a boat. They started with self-learning and adaptive software that taught itself more about your boat each time you took it out. Then they created unique FishHunter modes to aid fisherman and special Wind modes for sailors. Now they’ve taken customer feedback to create software that allows the NavPilot 700 to work without the use of a physical rudder feedback.

Furuno's all-new Fantum Feedback NavPilot software clears the path to a simplified installation, while also delivering enhanced steering control. With Fantum Feedback, NavPilot outboard installations no longer require use of a physical rudder feedback unit. This streamlined installation, combined with Furuno's unique adaptive learning Autopilot technology, provides unmatched outboard Autopilot performance.

Fantum Feedback is a menu-selectable feature available in the latest NavPilot 700 series software. This new software was developed and extensively tested on a wide variety of outboard vessels with hydraulic steering and reversing pump control. Fantum Feedback achieves precise course control, from slow trolling speeds to over 60 knots, utilizing a newly developed, time-based rudder gain process, rather than traditional rudder angle based control. The Fantum Feedback is designed for planing and semi-displacement outboard vessels from 24 to 50 feet, with one to four outboard engines.

The manufacturer claims the Furuno NavPilot 700 Fantum Feedback is now easier to setup and install, reduces steering effort and enhances the safety of your boat’s Autopilot. The NavPilot 700 interfaces with both NMEA0183 and NMEA2000 products, and if you have a Furuno NavNet system at your helm, the integration with the NavPilot 700 will be even tighter, allowing you to set your course, kick back and relax.

Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
