Bright orange hard-shell floating case carries marine safety items for boaters

The boater’s Santa wish

December 4, 2025

Sirius Signal, a world leader in marine safety distress signal innovation and manufacturing, announced today the introduction of the MK-1001 marine safety kit for boaters. The kit provides easy access to a variety of items important to all boaters’ safety.

“We saw great interest in our choice to develop a kit with these marine safety items,” said Steven Caldero, Sirius Signal Vice President of Sales. “The robust sales of our three-liter dry bag kit launched in 2023 really parted the seas for our launch decision.”

The featured item in the 15”x11.5”x6”-inch case is the Sirius Signal model C-1003 SOS electronic visual distress signal device (eVDSD). Accompanying the nighttime safety device are an approved daytime signal, first aid kit, signal horn, whistle, stainless steel marine multitool and high-performance rechargeable LED utility light with white and red flashing functions.

The case, which floats, features custom foam with cutouts to hold every item, a watertight seal with pressure release valve and an annual maintenance decal affixed to the top. There are also a couple extra spots to place additional items unique to each boater.

Complete Visual, Audible, and First Aid System approved in US

At this point, while this equipment meets US Coast Guard visual and audible distress signal requirements, Canadian approval is pending.

Up to this point, I feel that most electric boats have not been very exciting. The motors have been mainly small portable models for dinghies. There are some high-horsepower motors available, but they look like regular outboard motors to be used on conventional boats. Until now, there hasn’t been an electric boat that really makes a statement. Enter the ENVGO NV1.

Canada’s Superior: the North Shore

Story and photos by Jennifer M. Smith

We’d been north before on a short two-week cruise. At the time, we were unprepared for the isolation, the lack of cell phone coverage, and the spotty VHF reception. Since then we’ve repowered, installed Starlink, and retired from work. Now, with confidence in our engine and our connectivity and more time to sail, we were Superior-ready.
