New Compact Pontoon from Halifax’ New Star Marine

Compact Pontoon On Trailer

Jan 25, 2018

When the Halifax Boat Show opens on February 8th there will be an excellent selection of pontoon boats to chose from. However, I don’t think any of them will be in the same category as the Compact Pontoon on display at the New Star Marine & Scooter booth.

Compact Pontoon Launch

Norman Wiechert tells us this little boat was developed in co-operation with another boat dealer in Ontario and is built for them in Quebec. The idea was to have a pontoon boat that offered quality and comfort at a modest cost. With a towing weight of under 1,500 lbs, this little boat is easy to tow with a small car and easy to launch. The fact that the package will fit in a normal sized garage means further savings in the off-season.

Compact PontoonEasy to handle, maintain or trailer. Lots of space for storage and with a capacity of up to six people. New Star Marine is offering the NEW Compact Pontoon with a Special Edition Package including: Deluxe Steering Console, Suzuki High Thrust 9.9 EFI 4-Stroke outboard, upgraded electric start with power tilt, deluxe Bimini top, navigation light and boarding ladder, four doors, all aluminum in white with attractive marine graphics.

Options available include a stereo system, fish finder/chart plotter, BBQ, dining table, fully enclosed camper style canopy and a custom storage cover.

Norman points out that “For about the same price as a Deep V aluminum fishing boat package, a fisherman can easily catch fish in the shallow water with a buddy on one day and please the spouse the next day on a family boat outing.”

So when I heard that Pride Marine in Orillia, Ontario, had a Nimbus 365 Coupe in the water, I jumped at the chance to get out on it.

Tahiti—Updates from Paradise

By Zuzana Prochaska

I’ve been to Tahiti seven times—six on charter and once as crew for a couple of yachties. Over the 25 years that I’ve been visiting, it’s changed dramatically. Yet, inexplicably, it has also stayed the same.

Lounging on the flybridge of our Sunsail 454, I had time to think about this dichotomy as I toasted the nighttime skies of Bora Bora and specifically the Southern Cross, a constellation that never fails to hypnotize. As the Crosby, Stills & Nash (1982) tune reminds us:

…you understand now why you came this way.
