Watermakers take ocean water and create perfect drinking water using reverse osmosis. A Schenker Watermaker will allow you – whether you own a yacht, a sailboat or any vessel – to extend your cruising duration and increase your independency from marinas. With a watermaker an unlimited quantity of water can be produced, increasing both time and distance achievable between harbours.

It’s the classic story; Dave Mellis, the president of EDS Marine a division of EDS Pumps & Water Treatment Ltd, purchased a Schenker watermaker for his own personal boat and was so impressed he became a distributor. Dave went to visit the factory in Italy and said the quality control and the build on Schenker is second to none. Today, EDS Marine is the only Canadian distributor of the system.

Schenker Watermakers make use of a patented device (Energy Recovery System – ERS) that amplifies the pressure supplied by low-pressure pumps and recovers most of the spent energy, enabling very high-energy efficiency. The ERS is amazingly reliable.

The parts of the watermaker in contact with sea water are mainly made with carbon fibre or acetal resin. It doesn’t make use of traditional o-rings and is basically a maintenance free device. The O-rings, in the latest 2.0 version, have been replaced with special “friction bands” made with a special material produced using nanotechnology. This material exhibits a very low friction coefficient, and an incredible resistance to abrasion, up to 15 times greater than that of carbon steel.

The consumed energy used is up to 80% lower than a traditional system. Thanks to this high efficiency, Schenker watermakers can be powered directly from service batteries, without the need for a generator and run 12 volts or 24 volts.

Schenker Watermakers are available in three models, Zen, Smart and Modular and many capacities. The Zen 30 is ideal for a crew of 1-4 people; the capacity is 30 lit/h (7.9 Gal/h). The price is, on average, less than a traditional system and is certainly a lot cheaper to run.

The Schenker Watermaker it is sold in kit form with everything needed including clear instructions, to install the system. Schenker Watermakers produce very high-quality fresh water. The water produced is very pure (TDS of about 200-300 ppm). The reverse osmosis technology filters out up to 99.99% of bacteria, cysts, algae, and mold spores.
