Most boats quickly run out of hot water, especially when teenagers are on board. With the Raritan 1700 Series Water Heater, there’s more than enough for washing, bathing and post-swim rinse downs. Available in three sizes and with or without an engine power heat exchanger, its glass-lined tank and premium insulating layer provide impressive temperature retention.

The rust-proof 1700 Series Water Heater features a durable, rust-proof polymer jacket and replaceable magnesium anode for a long, trouble-free service life. High-density non-CFC foam provides a high R-value to keep water hot to 160° F. Mixed with boat-temperature pressurized water, the available 6, 12 and 20 gallon models offer an impressive delivery capacity. When empty, its recovery rate is a fast 13 GPH with the 115V heating element and 18 GPH with the 240V unit.

Every Raritan 1700 Series Marine Water Heater ships with an ignition-protected thermostat that’s adjustable between 110° and 160° F, with a safety shutdown limit of 190°. The temperature and pressure valve is rated at 75 psi at 210° F, instead of the typical 150 psi, to protect the boat’s plumbing.

The 1700 Series Water Heater is available with Raritan’s innovative heat exchanger system. While the engine is running, its cooling system

heats the water with over seven feet of internal coils. Combined with the unit’s heat retention, it makes building up hot water reserves fast and easy.

With plumbing fittings all on one side, installation of a Raritan 1700 Series Water Heater is easy, whether on new construction or retrofitting. Hot and cold water fittings are standard 3/4″ male NPT, and the heat exchanger is 3/4″ female NPT. Designed to fit into tight spaces, the 6-gallon model is 14.5″ dia. x 16.25″ H and weighs 36 lbs.; the 12 gal., 18.75″ dia. x 16.25″ H at 62 lbs.; and the 20 gal., 18.75″ dia. x 24.25″ H at 81 lbs. Hand-assembled and backed by Raritan’s five-year warranty on the tank and two on the unit, MSRP starts at US$1,440.

As I shift our chartered canal boat into neutral, I’m soothed by the soundtrack of bird calls, the occasional plaintive horn of a distant train and the hum of our engine.
