Your Holiday Gift Guide and the Latest in Marine Electronics

CY Dec 2020

Nov 5, 2020

Timed to help with those tough last-minute gift-giving ideas, we bring you the (almost) first-ever Canadian Yachting Magazine Holiday Gift Guide. Will a new cruiser fit under the tree? Is Santa going sailing? Maybe not, but it’s time to put your family and friends on both the nautical and nice lists.

We have gathered literally pages of gift ideas from cute to stunning, to make your holiday shopping easier. Those special boating enthusiasts on your list will be delighted with at least a few of the ideas the Canadian Yachting team has gathered together.

The December Canadian Yachting Magazine has traditionally been where we feature the latest in new Marine Electronics that were launched at the (mostly virtual) boat shows this fall. Craig Ritchie covers new developments in complex transducers, data processing systems and next-generation technology that have opened the door to unprecedented developments in charts, sonar and autopilots offering real-world benefits to Canadian boaters.

Following up on their major feature on The Bahamas in the October Canadian Yachting, Sheryl and Paul Shard bring you the Distant Shores TV Show perspective on their favourite cruising grounds; the Bahamas with Part II. Also, in this issue of Canadian Yachting is a new contributor, Danial Post of Parks Canada sharing details on Ontario’s best-kept secret, the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic site. The “Trent” holds the key to boating bliss in this time of pandemic-era travel. An epic 386km long, it’s time you rediscover this national treasure.

Boat reviews in this issue feature the brand-new Cruisers Yachts 42 GLS; an innovative new cruiser with great entertaining and recreational features that we call “Paradise Island”. You will see why as soon as you open the review. Next, Katherine Stone brings us the news about the magnificent new Jeanneau Yachts 60. This new sailing yacht will make its world debut at the Dusseldorf Boat Show in January 2021. All this and more is coming to you in the December 2020 edition of Canadian Yachting Magazine.

Spotted! Canadian Boating in Antigua & Barbuda

By Mathew Channer

I wore my Canadian Boating cap everywhere I went in Antigua, for the sun, not for the shout-outs. But I sure received a lot of them.

Antigua Sailing Week is an international regatta that draws sailors of every level and spectators from all over the world. Yet I couldn’t walk across a room without being hailed by a Canadian who was as excited to see my cap as they were to see the racing. I met many who were on their 3rd, 4th and 5th visit.
