This means WAR – Bringing back the Women’s Regatta at RHYC

WARThe idea was born over beers and a bonfire, as all great ideas are. After two years of meeting in the off seasons, the idea of bringing back the Women’s Annual Regatta (WAR) is coming to fruition in July 2019. The intent is simple: host an all women’s regatta which is both competitive enough to challenge experienced racers and inclusive enough to draw new sailors to the race course.

WAR first took place in 1974. Only a handful of current members at the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club (RHYC) remember the regatta from that time – including one current committee member who sailed on the winning boat when she was 14 years old. The regatta took place intermittently for a number of years, until the last one was held in 1990. Since that time The Ladies Cup has remained untouched in the trophy cabinet at RHYC, until now.

Save The DateAll female crews will race in Shark24s on the Hamilton Harbour. The regatta will take place over July 19 to 21. The three day event consists of one day of coaching and practice races followed by two days of racing. RHYC is pleased to announce that local band The Real McBrowns will be providing entertainment on Saturday evening and a cash BBQ will be available on the patio for hungry racers once the day is done.

Mentorship is available for all positions. Interested in learning how things work on the mark boat? We have volunteers who will show you and answer all your questions!

The entire RHYC community has come together with incredible enthusiasm to support women in sailing in this regatta. Women of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to come help out or compete. WAR and the RHYC offer a supportive and positive environment to grow in and we look forward to welcoming all sailors.

Just when you thought you might never see the Galley Guys again, there they were waving from the flying bridge of a Le Boat Horizon 3 gliding down the Trent Severn Waterway (TSW) in the sun. Glorious!

In the past the Galley Guys have travelled far and wide to great locations to explore the good life on a boat. However, this year we stayed in our own backyard for a real treat; cruising The Trent Severn Waterway.
