Optimist North Americans

Nova Scotia was well represented at the 2017 Optimist North American Championships held over the holiday weekend in Toronto. 178 sailors from 20 countries participated. The Canadian Team consisted of 30 sailors and 3 coaches, including 6 Sailors and Lead Coach from the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron Team.
The results for the NS sailors:
-Jackson Macaulay, finished 26th overall – Gold Fleet
-Jack Gogan, finished 32nd overall – Gold Fleet – from
-Maya Heidenreich finished 52nd overall – Gold Fleet
-Noah Adler finished 3rd in Silver Fleet
-Molly Anderson finished 19th in Silver Fleet
-Alexander Roy had great first 2 days of racing including a top 10 on the first day, but unfortunately for family reasons he had to go back to Halifax and could not compete on the Final Series, the last 2 days of the event. He is scored 29th in Bronze Fleet.
Florencia Siccardi, is the National Optimist Coach and Lead coach for this event.
For the first time in many years, Canada had 3 sailors representing the country in the Gold Fleet at an IODA event, all of them from NS. The top 4 sailors in Team Canada, Jackson, Jack, Maya and Noah are from RNSYS, NS.
There were many highlights for our sailors, some were: Jackson Macaulay got a 1st place in the Gold fleet on the first day of the final series and several top 15s. Molly Anderson won the last race of the event in the Silver Fleet.
