In the week leading up to Chester Race Week, the village played host to the Nova Scotia Schooner Association (NSSA). Instead of modern race yachts, the water front was crowded with handsome wooden schooners of various shapes and sizes. Jim Barkhouse took some great photos which we are happy share here.

The first Nova Scotia Schooner Championship was held on July 25, 1961 in Hubbards Cove, Nova Scotia. The event was an enormous success with 11 schooners taking part. During the first schooner meeting, the skippers gathered aboard the beautiful 1905 Tancook Island Schooner ADARE, where the Nova Scotia Schooner Association was formed to further interest in and preservation of Nova Scotia Schooners and all schooner rigged vessels and to hold Schooner Races in Nova Scotian waters at least once each year to determine the Nova Scotian Schooner Championship.

Ontario Sailors Do Well At Laser North American Championship

Brant Beach, NJ was home to the 2011 Laser and Laser Radial North American Championships, July 12th -15th, and also home for several Canadian athletes during this event. Ontario was well represented, having 15 athletes competing in the Laser class and 11 athletes competing in the Laser Radial class.
 
The venue consisted of extremely shallow waters with several weedy patches patches for the athletes to avoid across the race course. Day 1 consisted of three races for both the fleets and included moderate breeze from the West, South West with fairly large shifts and immobile patches of pressure spread across the course.

Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
