Canada’s largest regatta for sailors with physical disabilities begins

The 2011 edition of the Mobility Cup began today with clinics for the sailors and the Opening Ceremonies. Hosted by The Royal Hamilton Yacht Club and the Burlington Sailing & Boating Club this year marks the 21st anniversary edition of the event.

With more than 60 disabled athletes from five countries including Australia, the Netherlands, the U.K., U.S.A and Canada vying for a variety of trophies, this year is expected to be one of good racing on Hamilton harbor and great socializing on the patio of the RHYC.

he clinics were conducted by two International Judges and two coaches from Ontario Sailing. With many competitors new to sailing the eagerness to learn was apparent in the questions asked by the sailors about everything from tactics to room at the mark and how to file a protest.

The competitors, sailing in Martin 16s and Access Liberty dinghies then took to the water of Hamilton harbor to test their skills and to receive on the water coaching courtesy of Ontario Sailing. Racing in earnest begins Tuesday August 30 until Friday September 2.

Destination: Trent Severn Waterway ONE MORE TIME!

Just when you thought you might never see the Galley Guys again, there they were waving from the flying bridge of a Le Boat Horizon 3 gliding down the Trent Severn Waterway (TSW) in the sun. Glorious!

In the past the Galley Guys have travelled far and wide to great locations to explore the good life on a boat. However, this year we stayed in our own backyard for a real treat; cruising The Trent Severn Waterway.
