Forty years after it debuted at TIBS in 1985, the NEW 12th edition of the PORTS Cruising Guide for Georgian Bay, the North Channel and Lake Huron has just had a huge facelift!

The 2025 PORTS Guide was launched at the Toronto International Boat Show currently running until January 28, 2025. The previous 2020 Georgian Bay edition was assembled in 2019 prior to the pandemic. Many changes in marine facilities, restaurants and retail services needed to be researched and updated. New concepts for 2025 were introduced to simplify usability and capture future changes to the services you may seek.

The editorial team at Canadian Boating engaged with hundreds of marine facilities to update their services offered. We travelled by car and boat to meet with businesses and boaters alike gathering recommendations for improvements to the guide.

  • Your suggestions resulted in the following upgrades to the 2025 PORTS Guide:
  • The introduction of QR codes for each harbour, allowing boaters to quickly access updated community services, events and highlights via their cell phones.
  • A new index of anchorages in the PORTS Guide to select potential “hidey” spots.
  • Beyond listing community medical services for you and your crew, the 2025 PORTS Guide now facilitates online access to veterinary services throughout Ontario’s boating regions.
  • Anchorages listed were analyzed and updated, clarifying the best approach and positioning.
  • A new index of ports was developed so that you can quickly find your next harbour destination.
  • Expanded coverage includes St. Joseph Island and the ports of Richards Landing and Hilton Beach.
  • Updated CHS chart listings as well as NOAA’s 2025 deletions of their paper charts.

The single free digital version available through Apple and Google Play has been a hit and is also available for the new 2025 version. Download the digital app and follow the instructions located on the free bookmark located inside the front cover of the guide where you will also find your unique code.

The guide also includes a new appealing “Coffee Table” cover and many images throughout, provided by boaters in the areas featured.

Be sure to purchase this guide during your cruise planning stages then keep it onboard for the trip! www.portsbooks.com

Some are day cruisers; some are centre console fishing boats or designed for tow sports. A new live-aboard cabin boat has become a rare item these days.

So when I heard that Pride Marine in Orillia, Ontario, had a Nimbus 365 Coupe in the water, I jumped at the chance to get out on it.

Tahiti—Updates from Paradise

By Zuzana Prochaska

I’ve been to Tahiti seven times—six on charter and once as crew for a couple of yachties. Over the 25 years that I’ve been visiting, it’s changed dramatically. Yet, inexplicably, it has also stayed the same.

Lounging on the flybridge of our Sunsail 454, I had time to think about this dichotomy as I toasted the nighttime skies of Bora Bora and specifically the Southern Cross, a constellation that never fails to hypnotize. As the Crosby, Stills & Nash (1982) tune reminds us:

…you understand now why you came this way.
