Women’s Sailing Committee to Launch in Atlantic Canada

Female Sailors

In 2013 data collected from clubs and sailing programs across Nova Scotia revealed that only 34% of sailors are female. The keynote speaker at the first Atlantic Sailing Conference, Nick Hayes, noted that the number is about the same in the US. He also showed that women are the future for growing numbers in the sport of sailing.
With that in mind Sail Nova Scotia together with WOW!, Women on Water, brought together 25 female sailing leaders at the end of April for a social and to talk about what can be done to increase numbers at all levels.

The trim team smoothly sheets on the headsail and a competitor vessel shoots past our stern, feet away, as our Solana 45 beats eastward along Antigua’s south coast.
