Rail Yard Wake Park opened in 2013 headed up by Ian, Ross and Christine, long-time residents of East Gwillimbury and local business people who have a passion for water sports.

The company’s goal is to give everyone an opportunity to participate in board sports. You can learn, practice and improve your skills on either one of our 2 Sesitec System 2.0 straight-line cables. The beauty of having two cables is less wait times and plenty of water features for all levels. (They recommend calling ahead to book your time).

The cable system provides a safe, exciting, and inexpensive way to get more people involved in the board sports community. It also eliminates the need for a boat. The straight-line cable is by far the simplest and easiest way to learn to wakeboard. The upward pull enables effortless starts and has proven to provide the easiest learning curve for beginners with the assistance of our certified instructors. It also allows for more experienced riders to practice on water features and air tricks. Falling at the park is no big deal. A press of a button and the rider has the handle and is ready to go in no time. Having an operator/instructor along side you allows for one-on-one instruction.

The cable is not limited to just wakeboarding. Rail Yard offers wake skating, wake skiing and kneeboarding too. All the equipment needed is available for rent if you don’t have your own.

The Erie Canal – An Extraordinary Waterway

By Mark Stevens

As I shift our chartered canal boat into neutral, I’m soothed by the soundtrack of bird calls, the occasional plaintive horn of a distant train and the hum of our engine.

I reach for the VHF to radio the lockmaster in charge of Erie Canal’s Lock 32 dead ahead. Our boat spins gently in the current like a maple key in a mud puddle.

“This is Onondaga,” I say. “Headed westbound and requesting passage.”
