RC Laser Regatta

Nov 9, 2016

The first in a planned series of three, Remote Control Laser Regatta’s was held in North Sannich on October 30th. Colin and Marsha McGruer, the organizers of the event, set up the race courses and did race committee. There were 10 races with first place going to Steve Kibble.

Their goal is the build up a fleet of RCL Sailors from Victoria and the Sannich Peninsula.

Following the races, I sat down with Colin, Fraser MacMillan and Dave Campbell to find out, what the attraction was to RC Lasers.

Fraser, the skipper of Sunnyvale a Melges 24 was first to jump in. “First and foremost it’s competitive racing. It doesn’t take a lot of time. You can get 15 races and in an afternoon and it’s just a lot of fun.

“You end up racing the top people from all the different large boat fleets in area. There is Ken Holland on a (Martin 242), Tim Daniel on a (Dash 34) and Bob Seranius on a (Melges 24).
