Le Boat celebrates 50 Years

Classic Le Boat

March 08, 2019

In 2019, Le Boat is celebrating 50 years of providing customers with unforgettable memories on the waterways of Europe and now in Canada.

Founded in 1969, Le Boat is a market leader in canal cruise boat rentals, and the number-one provider of boating vacations on the beautiful rivers, lakes and canals of Canada and Europe.  With the world’s largest fleet of self-driving boats, and a wide range of boating destinations to choose from, Le Boat has come a long way from where it began.

The Le Boat journey launched when entrepreneur Michael Streat established ‘Blue Line’ (to later become Le Boat) on the famous Canal du Midi in France with just eight boats. Now, in its golden anniversary year, the Le Boat fleet has grown to over 940 boats offering 18,000 cruises each year, in nine countries around the world.

Le Boat recently released two new custom-built, state-of-the-art boat models – the Vision and the Horizon. These boats have re-defined the traditional “houseboat experience” by adding luxurious comfort, “ease-of-use” operation, modern design, and up-to-date technology to provide the ultimate boating holiday.

Classic Emerald StarLe Boat expanded to North America in 2018, opening in Smiths Falls, ON, on the UNESCO World Heritage Rideau Canal.  With Le Boat’s incredible success in their first year with a fleet of 16 brand-new premier Horizon cruisers, they are preparing for a strong 2019 by bringing over an additional four Horizons from Poland – due to arrive at the North American base the week of March 13, 2019 . The cargo includes three brand-new built Horizon 5 models, (sleeps up to 12 people with five cabins and five bathrooms).

Also new for 2019, Le Boat is expanding on the Rideau Canal and opening a second base in Seeley’s Bay Ontario, to allow customers to enjoy a one way cruise on the Rideau (vs. return the boat to their base in Smiths Falls.)  Perfect for those cruisers wanting to go farther and experience more along the Rideau during a short break or one week cruise.

Renting a Le Boat requires no previous experience or no boat license. All Le Boat vacations are geared toward the both the avid boat and non-boater in mind.  All the controls and navigation equipment are simple to use and many of our boats offer joystick or push button side thrusters to make mooring the boat (or parallel parking ) easy!  If you can drive a car, you can drive a Le Boat! .
