Fire at Krates Marina Destroys Several Boats

Fire at Krates Marina

Apr 8, 2021

On Monday, March 29th, fire broke out in a group of power boats stored on the hard and still under shrink wrap. Black smoke was visible for miles at the height of the blaze. Boating Industry Canada News Week Digest spoke to David Kent, manager at the Pride Marine location at Krates Marina. The boats were their customer’s vessels.

YouTube drone video of the fire suggests that perhaps six or more boats may have been affected with a few certainly destroyed completely.

Kent emphasized that the fire is under investigation and that no cause, nor any details are available yet. However, he did say that, “We are very grateful that there were no injuries and front-line responders did a great job of bringing the situation under control quickly.”

The Queensway, a main road through Keswick was closed by police for most of the day while the Fire Department extinguished the blaze and cleaned up the area.
