Barrie Squadron makes it Christmas in the Caribbean

Boating season may be over for the majority of Canadian inland boaters, but the Barrie Power and Sail Squadron has one last kick at the cat during Barrie, Ontario’s annual Santa Claus Parade. This year’s parade theme was “Christmas Around the World” and the Barrie Squadron decided on a “Christmas in the Caribbean” theme for their float. Look closely and you’ll see that Frosty is standing on a surfboard, and there are two palm trees in the aft cockpit. The float was enhanced by a steel drum band’s collection of Christmas tunes blaring from an on-board audio system.

Not terribly visible in this daylight photo are a few hundred coloured lights adorning several elements of the boat. Naturally they were much more visible during the night-time parade.

Banners touting “We Teach Safe Boating” hang from starboard and port sides of the boat.
