Nationwide Workshops for our CPS-ECP Instructors

Eileen Workshop SCPSS

Nov 21, 2019

A lively day-long workshop for Sunshine Coast CPS-ECP Squadron Instructors was held on 31 October. Squadron Instructor Frank Palmer and his wife Celine generously lent their home in Gibsons, as the venue. With a large, flat-screen TV, whiteboard, comfortable seating, and a continuous supply of coffee and cookies, the stage was set for an ideal day of learning.

Visiting Educational Specialist, Eileen Germain, from Trois-Rivieres Squadron is travelling coast to coast for CPS-ECP, conducting workshops on a variety of new software tools. These are available to liven up our squadron training presentations. Our local volunteers took advantage of this rare opportunity. Animated discussions were the rule of the day! Eileen took us through different techniques, such as Kahoot, Flipped Class, Mental Maps, the Ed Puzzle Method – eight in all. Although these are available at present, the workshops are being presented as a precursor to the arrival of the new CPS-ECP computer system, whose arrival is rumoured to be imminent! Seven Sunshine Coast Squadron instructors took part. Lunch was provided by Educational Officer Pat Lewis, with additional witches’ fingers, in the spirit of Halloween, from Marilyn Adams.

Eileen has been quite busy since the conference; she met instructors in four workshops in BC, one in Sydney for VISD October 27, another one in Nanaimo for VIND November 2, two on the Sunshine Coast the next week for the Pacific Mainland District.

From there, Eileen will travel to Atlantic District for two workshops; one in Moncton on November 16 and another one the next day in Halifax on the 17th, the idea being to do it before the December snowstorms in this area.

The next step is quite important; the planning is to have two workshops at the National Office Saturday, November 30th and Sunday, December 1st for both York East and York West District. We are also planning to film video clips attached to the tool kit to create presentations, which will be used later on for the RI refresh.

Next come the Estuaire St-Laurent District with a workshop in Matane on December 7, which J.-R. Lavergne plans to be present. The following weekend, December 14, she will be in Cartier District in Longueuil; and January 18 Estuaire St-Laurent in Quebec.

Just when you thought you might never see the Galley Guys again, there they were waving from the flying bridge of a Le Boat Horizon 3 gliding down the Trent Severn Waterway (TSW) in the sun. Glorious!
