The National Office of Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons will be closed for the holidays between Christmas and New Year’s. The National Office hours during this time will be as follows:
Friday December 21, 2018 – Office Open 0830 to 1630 EST
Monday December 24, 2018 to Tuesday January 1, 2019 – Office Closed
Wednesday January 2, 2019 – Office Open 0830 to 1630 EST

As I shift our chartered canal boat into neutral, I’m soothed by the soundtrack of bird calls, the occasional plaintive horn of a distant train and the hum of our engine.
I reach for the VHF to radio the lockmaster in charge of Erie Canal’s Lock 32 dead ahead. Our boat spins gently in the current like a maple key in a mud puddle.
“This is Onondaga,” I say. “Headed westbound and requesting passage.”
