Book the CPS-ECP Boating Skills Virtual Trainer for your boat show

BSVT

Nov 21, 2019

The Boating Skills Virtual Trainer (BSVT) allows boaters to practice the basics of recreational small boat handling.

The BSVT embodies high-end technology featuring three computer screens with a selective rotating field of vision close to 360 degrees. It has a responsive steering wheel with console switches for horn and navigation lights. It is modeled after a Boston Whaler Dauntless 200 with Mercury outboard and controls. It reacts to variable settings for trim, current and wind. On the dashboard you see your compass, tach and speedometer. Boat show attendees can maneuver through simulated exercises in a virtual lake, without the risks of a real boat on the water.

The program consists of fourteen preplanned lessons that cover:

1. Departing the Dock
2. Working with Spring Lines
3. Fairways
4. Pivot Turn
5. Mooring
6. Docking
7. Slalom
8. Crossing/Overtaking/Meeting
9. Emergency Stop
10. Beaching
11. Man Overboard
12. Navigation Aids
13. Night Operations
14. Open Waters

Canada’s Superior: the North Shore

Story and photos by Jennifer M. Smith
