An Ocean of Good

An Ocean of Good

Mar 9, 2022

The Marine Education and Research Society has launched their empowering campaign about marine plastics. It is optimistic and action-based with “everyday choices for everyday solutions”.

See the highly engaging animations and associated content at www.AnOceanOfGood.org.

The content makes clear why plastics are such a problem and provides the science and strategies for positive change. The education is necessary and very timely.

An example of the problems, and solutions, is that many of us are unaware of the great volume of plastic microfibres that are released into the ocean through our washing machines and that these attract toxins that build up in the food web. There are many solutions to the problem of microfibres including adjusting how we wash clothes and using a simple filter in our washing machines.

The resources provided also include how to make comment on Canada’s proposed ban on single-use plastics.

Please help create An Ocean of Good.

Lounging on the flybridge of our Sunsail 454, I had time to think about this dichotomy as I toasted the nighttime skies of Bora Bora and specifically the Southern Cross, a constellation that never fails to hypnotize. As the Crosby, Stills & Nash (1982) tune reminds us:

…you understand now why you came this way.
