CandC 44rHey Skipper.

This boat carries the distinction as the last boat to leave the C&C Custom shop in Oakville prior to the final bankruptcy. In fact the Receiver had his hand on the boat, pushing it out the door.  Or so the story goes.

I’ve been a brand ambassador of the C&C product line since before I worked for them as a broker/salesman and it continues today.  This boat represented some of their finest technology; a Kevlar, vacuum bagged hull. A Nomex honeycomb deck with carbon fibre skins top and bottom and a seamless, one piece hull.  There is no trademark toerail on this boat and because of that it fools most lookers.

The rig is a combination of an America’s Cup boom by Hall Spars and a Sparcraft stick.  Mark Bruckmann had a picture of his father’s crew on their last day, sitting on the boat and the Andrews trailer as the final picture for that plant.  When I bought the boat I sent it back to the new Bruckmann shop and the guys that Mark had in the shop were some of the same as who did the initial work.  They and I rebuilt this boat with an interior, replacing the pipe berths and adding some amenities like lights and plumbing. And we took another picture as it left the shop again.

There still is no door to the head  but the bucket was replaced with an electric flush into a holding tank.  She still sails like she is on rails.  My wife and I day sail her with a #2 furling genoa and an undersized main.  If our kids are aboard they like to fly the gennaker, the spinnaker and pole have been put away.  And of course she gets noticed everywhere we go.

Thanks for reaching out, I hope you get a lot of pictures and even better stories than mine.

All the best,

Rob Maurice.

Hiding Out in Belize

By Zuzana Prochazka

Dodging holiday havoc in the tropics

Getting out of town was top-of-mind as it was only November and I was already saturated with Christmas traditions – the music, the glitter, the cookies, the sales. A week in relatively remote Belize was the siren song so we booked a 45-foot catamaran with The Moorings and packed our bags.
