Zimmer Launch launched

Zimmer Details

Aug 9, 2018

A couple of months a go we had a look at a rather unique small boat under construction by Keith Nelder at Big Pond Boat Shop in Martins River on Mahone Bay. At 8:30 on the morning of July 28th and without fanfare, the newly christened Daisy slipped into the water.

Allison Nelder snapped a few pictures of the Nelson Zimmer designed boat and the short video shows her sliding into the water as the little Yanmar fires up and pulls her away. With her varnished trim, teak decks and bronze wheel, she is a lovely sight.

Out She ComesAs many of the older wooden boats disappear and our harbours fill up with the products of modern mass boat construction, it is nice to see a few unique and individualistic boats are still being commissioned by owners who want something different.

Sailing into the Future at Antigua Sailing Week

By Mathew Channer

“Standby tack,” Canadian sailor Katy Campbell orders. The crew scrambles over the sheet lines and braces on the deck.

“Three, two, one, tack!”

I wait until the bow turns into the wind and the headsail snaps over, then crawl over the cabin top of Panacea X to the now windward side. The trim team smoothly sheets on the headsail and a competitor vessel shoots past our stern, feet away, as our Solana 45 beats eastward along Antigua’s south coast.
