Uttern T59 by Legend Boats

By Andy Adams

The Uttern T59 is a brand-new offering from Legend boats here in Canada, but Uttern is well-established in Europe and recently celebrated its 60th Anniversary. It’s a Scandinavian-designed family boat, built in Europe and created to handle big water like Georgian Bay and even the Great Lakes. The Uttern (pronounced “ootern”) T59 is 5.9 m in length or 19’2″ on a 92-inch beam. The T59 is designed with a self-bailing interior liner and generous freeboard adds safety in rough water. The deep-vee hull rides smoothly and is very efficient. Fuel in Europe is very expensive and the Uttern was designed to perform well with lower horsepower engines although the T59 can handle up to 150 hp.

The T59 model is a bow rider and there are also closed deck and centre console versions available. The bow seats three or four protected by stainless-steel rails and there is a wind dam with cushion included. The interior, with seating for five adults, is  protected by a generous skiff-style glass windshield. The helm features a 7-inch Simrad multifunction display for navigation, GPS speed, and other systems. There is also a speedometer and tachometer plus, you get a Fusion stereo system.

Stylish pedestal bucket seats upfront feature flip-up bolsters and these seats adjust and can swivel to face aft. Across the transom is a large bench seat with storage underneath and a second separate compartment to stow the convertible top. Uttern includes a handsome and versatile teak table with folding lid revealing built-in drink holders. Folded out, this creates a comfortable onboard dining area.

The storage under the aft seat includes the battery and switching system, a place to store the table leg and more. The lid has a gas strut to assist and is gasketed to prevent water from getting in. There is much more storage under the seats in the bow.

The elegant hardware is all stainless-steel including the bow rails which feature convenient raised sections to help people on an off when people beach the boat. At the stern is a husky stainless-steel towing system for water sports.

The swim platform features teak decks port and starboard, and the lids lift to reveal drained storage bins for lines and other wet items. The telescopic boarding ladder is great for swimming or reboarding a skier. The excellent hardware also includes a very sturdy flagpole that can be an assist for boarding and the convertible top has the ability to slide forward to make boarding at the stern easier.

Other cool features that are standard are colour matched safety gear and mooring lines. The Uttern T59 is very well equipped with standard features that even includes a full top and windshield wipers.

As a handsome new fibreglass family boat in the 17 to 20-foot range, the Uttern models are somewhat unique in our market and it’s a beautifully upholstered and well finished boat with a wide range of capabilities. Spotted! Canadian Boating in Antigua & Barbuda

By Mathew Channer

I wore my Canadian Boating cap everywhere I went in Antigua, for the sun, not for the shout-outs. But I sure received a lot of them.

Antigua Sailing Week is an international regatta that draws sailors of every level and spectators from all over the world. Yet I couldn’t walk across a room without being hailed by a Canadian who was as excited to see my cap as they were to see the racing. I met many who were on their 3rd, 4th and 5th visit.
