Sail-In Cinema™ Movies Announced For August 2013

Canada’s floating movie experience, Sail-In Cinema™ is back at the water’s edge with a line up of 1980s favourites chosen by the public; the theme for this year’s movies is ‘Heroes of the Silver Screen.’ For three August nights, Toronto’s Sugar Beach will be transformed into the city’s largest outdoor theatre where the audience watch movies on a two-sided screen anchored to a barge on Lake Ontario.
This year’s movie line up includes:
•    Ghostbusters on Thursday August 15
•    The Princess Bride on Friday August 16
•    Back to the Future on Saturday August 17
“We’re excited about this year’s film choices,” said TPA President and CEO, Geoffrey Wilson.  “Sail-In Cinema is a unique event and is one way that the TPA is helping Toronto rediscover and celebrate its vibrant harbour. These films are sure to draw Torontonians to the waterfront, and boaters to the water, to enjoy a summer evening under the stars watching three of the most entertaining movies from the 80s,” he continued.
From August 15 to 17 Torontonians can enjoy the films from land or boat on each of the three nights. The two-sided 700-pound screen is 40 x 20 feet and will sit on a floating barge in Lake Ontario that is 60 x 90 feet in size.

The other movies on the shortlist included Raiders of the Lost Ark, which was a few votes shy of third place; Top Gun; Superman and Goldfinger.
Members of the public were invited to vote for the three movies that will be shown at this year’s festival through TPA’s Facebook page and the Sail-In Cinema™ website. The voting ran from July 18 to July 25 and nearly 1,400 votes were cast.
Free landside tickets for the third annual Sail-In Cinema™ are now available at www.sailincinema.com. While tickets are free, the TPA cautions that there is limited seating on the landside, and entry is subject to availability of space. Movies will start after sundown (approximately 8:45pm) and doors will open at 6:00 p.m. The first 500 ticketholders on site each night will receive special seating and attendees will have a chance to win several prizes from Sail-In Cinema™ partners. Sail-In Cinema™ is the only major movie festival in Toronto where boaters can sail-in, drop anchor and watch movies in Lake Ontario. Boat mooring will be available on a first come first served basis.
TPA is presenting Sail-In Cinema™ 2013 with the support of Toyota Canada Inc., Porter Airlines, North American Logistics Services Inc., The Waterfront BIA, Popchips, Keurig® and media partners: the Toronto Star, Metro, CP24 and 99.9 Virgin Radio.

Sail and Life Training Society (SALTS) has relocated its office, moorage and maintenance facilities from its home of nearly 25 years at Hope Point Shipyard on Victoria’s Upper Harbour. The shipyard is slated for redevelopment that will no longer accommodate SALTS. The office has moved to 451 Herald Street above the Canoe Brewpub in a brick-and timber-heritage building that once housed the coal-powered electric generators that powered Victoria's streetlights. National Bank Easter Seals Waves Regatta set to go June 34, 24 at Royal Vancouver Yacht Club

This year’s charity sailing event will feature one weekend of competitive Keelboat and Dinghy racing in English Bay as well as the recreational Easter Seals Cup race. Almost 200 boats participated last year and this year event organizers are hoping for close to 300 boats to take part. The post race festivities offer a chance for all participants to kick back and relax after the first full day of racing.

Boat for Hope Gets Pirates Out on the Water

Hundreds of pirates – and their parents – gathered at yacht clubs in Vancouver, Victoria and Kelowna in June for this year’s Boat for Hope. Hosted by Variety – the Children’s Charity, Boat for Hope offers children who have special needs and their families a fun, easy day of on-water pirating adventures, in which they board boats decked out in pirate gear and crewed by their owners, who truly dive into the spirit of the day.

Vancouver’s Boat for Hope is in its 14th year and staged at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club with extensive support from club members, other yacht clubs and power squadrons. Boat for Hope is now also staged in Ireland and Australia.

MarineMax Launches New Vacation Charter Company

MarineMax Inc., North America's largest recreational boat and yacht retailer, is proud to announce the introduction of MarineMax Vacations, a charter program offering premium sail and power yacht vacations. As part of the program, the Company will also be offering a yacht ownership program for the charter fleet.
