What Plan? Your Plan… Strategic Priority #1 – Education
The 2016-2020 Strategic Plan lists five key Priorities and Education is one of the five. There are 5 Goals outlined in this section of the Plan, and all have been addressed by the members assigned to each of them. Progress has been good since the Plan’s start-up, and shows the commitment of the Educational Department to their Goals. Briefly, some of the accomplishments to date are:
• Production of a Matrix showing the status of each of our courses including the date of current use, the date of review/update, and details of work in progress, for both English and French Courses.
• Development of seminars produced both in-house and received from Squadrons, is ongoing with new titles ready to go and in the works. Now looking for ways to advise the SEOs of what is available to them, hoping to encourage year-round use.
• Much work has been done to determine which of our courses suit which kind of delivery, i.e. in class, online, blended learning, etc. From this, Boating 2 & 3 are offered to all Squadrons via blended learning, with Boating 2 also online Asynchronously (not taken all at same time… available at your pace) given, with Manuals for help in facilitating these courses now available. Several more initiatives in this regard are ongoing.
• The Plan’s recommendation to add a 4th Assistant National Educational Officer (ANEO) to the Ed. Dept has been accomplished, and some concentration on Internal Training is underway. The Operations Training (OT) program is being broadened in scope and the Instructor Development (ID) Program is in re-write stage.
All in all, this Strategic Priority is being very well addressed, and everyone involved is to be congratulated. Having said that, more volunteers are needed in this work, and if any member has any interest in any of the topics covered, please don’t hesitate to join the group.
