The Saint John river is a fantastic cruising ground and for powerboaters there is the extra treat of being able to tie up handy to downtown Fredericton, at the Regent Street Wharf. The old railway bridge, now called the Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge, restricts sailboats from reaching the town.

The wharf is managed by the Capital City Boat Club. From here all the sights of this pleasant university and government town are within walking distance. During the summer months, you can check out the colourful changing of the guard ceremonies at Officer’s Square. Arrive mid-September and you will be able to enjoy the 5-day long Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, which has grown into a major event in recent years. September and even early October are beautiful months to explore the river with lots of clear skies, cool evenings and some of the best Autumn colours you’ll see anywhere.

Cuba’s by far the biggest island in the Caribbean. Roughly 1,200 km long x 200 km wide at its widest point with something like 3,700 km of coastline it’s the ideal destination for Canadian boaters, right? Canadians can and do go by boat to Cuba but it’s not always simple. The Cuban government, the American government and the currents in the Straits of Florida complicate passage but don’t let any of those deter you. For those who do cross to the land of sunny Latin skies and the convertible peso, there’s a quite reasonable array of marine facilities and a very warm welcome.

Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
